Surge Withstand Capability upgraded to meet IEEE C37.90.1 - 2002
ADDED: 4/13/2005 7:31:00 AM

MET has purchased a new modular impulse generator that increases our surge capabilities from 208Vac, 16A to 480Vac, 25A. This meets EN 61000-4-5 requirements that will become mandatory in 2007. Additionally, this upgrade will satisfy surge withstand capability requirements of:
  • ANSI/IEEE C37.90.1:1989 IEEE standard surge withstand capability (SWC) tests for protective relays and relay systems AND
  • IEEE C37.90.1:2002 standard for surge withstand capability (SWC) Tests for relays and relay systems associated with electric power apparatus (now required)
  • EN 61000-4-5: 2005
  • EN 61000-4-12
  • EN 60255-22-1
  • EN 60255-22-5
An increasing number of public utility commissions are requiring SWC testing on relays and protective systems installed in substations. MET is a valuable resource for manufacturers of equipment intended for use in substations, even if self-certifying. MET's documentation detailing the testing to ANSI C37.90.1 is an essential exhibit for a public utility commission submittal. MET's environmental simulation capability meets the full temperature ranges cited in the 1989 and 2002 versions of ANSI/IEEE C37.90.1.
