Fungus Testing Increasingly Important
ADDED: 7/2/2004 2:30:00 PM
Fungus growth is increasingly being seen by RBOCs as a critical degradation factor for fiber optic cable. Internally, distribution of light and the speed of data transmission can be severely degraded by fungus build up. Externally the cable insulation can deteriorate. Enclosures, NEDS, and splice connectors can also be aversely effected by fungus. MET Labs can perform the required fungus testing called out in Telecordia standards (and ASTM G.21) for fiber optic components, enclosures and cable. Fungus testing is also required in Mil standards as defined in Method 508.5 of MIL-STD 810F.
