Seismic Simulator

MET boasts one of the largest and most capable seismic test systems in the United States. With a table area of 6’ x 6’, a 6000 lb. capacity, and a center of gravity as high as 60”, the system can accommodate large cabinets or multiple rack systems. The installation includes an electric overhead crane for the safe and efficient movement of test systems.

The new system is capable of performing the seismic and vibration tests required by NEBS GR-63-CORE, GR-487-CORE, and MIL-STDs 810F and 167. The earthquake simulator at MET includes Team Corporations voice coil servo valves for high frequency response, a T film slip table for precise control of all off-axis motions, and HydraShaker actuators with high force capacity. These high precision components are pivotal in the production of trouble-free test systems.

Airborne Contaminants Chamber

MET's Union City, CA, features an Airborne Contaminants chamber, giving MET Airborne Contaminant testing capabilities on both coasts. This addition now permits complete NEBS testing in the Union City facility. The new ABC chamber has a large capacity, able to handle full-size telecommunications racks.

Flame Testing

As a Verizon-certified Independent Testing Laboratory for NEBS, MET provides fully upgraded flame test capabilities to Verizon requirements, in our Baltimore and California facilities. Our flame test facilities incorporate wide angle photo lenses with the ability to view a 9-foot-high, six-frame-wide, bay of equipment from the ground to the top. Radiant heat sensors and termocouple mounting assure precision and repeatability, when located at the required distances. Our heavy duty flame-proof overhead cable tray better simulates Central office cable configurations.

Solar Radiation Testing

MET's current environmental simulation capabilities include enhanced Fiber to the Premises testing per GR-49, GR-950, GR-771, GR-487 and GR-2898 requirements. MET can test to the full UV A & B, visible and near infrared range cited in Telcordia standards. Additionally, MET's upgraded solar radiation testing capabilities also includes MIL-STD-810, Method 505, Procedures I & II; and DIN 75 220.

Fungus Testing

MET Labs can perform the required fungus testing called out in Telecordia standards (and ASTM G.21) for fiber optic components, enclosures and cable. Fungus testing is also required in Mil standards as defined in Method 508.5 of MIL-STD 810F.

Enclosure Testing

MET performs all testing required in NEMA 250 - Enclosures for Electrical Equipment. Additionally, MET tests to IEC 529 - Degrees of Protection Provided by Enclosures (IP Code), including drip test, spraying test, splashing water, water jets and full penetration.
